LUSH: First Impressions

If there is one brand besides the typical drugstore, Sephora and department store brands that is absolutely raved about by beauty bloggers, it's LUSH Cosmetics! I had never heard of it until I started reading beauty blogs and following beauty vloggers on YouTube. In fact, I also noticed around this time that there is a section in my local Macy's cosmetics department at the mall.

After researching the cult-favorites for over a year now, I finally tried out some of the products. The sales woman took me around showing me all the favorites ranging from skincare to haircare to bath products. They even have a makeup line too, but if I'm honest, I'm not really interested in any of it.

Tarte 'the stand outs' limited-edition kit

Tarte 'the stand outs' limited-edition best-sellers kit

This Tarte kit retails for $24 and is such an amazing deal! Since it was a gift I gave to my sister for Christmas, I was able to try everything out myself before she left to fly back to where she lives. I was SO impressed by this kit! I've always been a Tarte fan, having owned a shade of the LipSurgence, Maracuja sets, and the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara.

I'm back!

After a BUSY semester at school to kick off my senior year, I'm finally on my winter break with time that I've been able to dedicate to revamping the design of my blog.  I changed the color scheme and created a logo of my own on Adobe InDesign, which I learned in my PR publications course this fall.

While it's hard to know what spring semester will bring, my class schedule allows me some extra time to get my blog back up-and-running. I will be planning out my posts in advance and publish 2-3x/week to start out. I'll be focusing on beauty, while also having occasional fashion-related posts (hauls, sales, coupon codes, etc), travel, health/food and intern advice posts --- the areas I would consider myself to be pretty savvy in! ;)

I am very open-minded to the direction of this blog, but without my readers, it will not become anything at all! Please feel free to ask questions, give your suggestions/opinions and request posts.

Wish me luck! xx

how to ...little badges....

this little how to is for cute wooden badges..not just for christmas in fact mine aren't chrismassy at all but they would make cute gifts or stocking presents

you will need

small wooden discs ( here )
badge backs ( you can get them on ebay )
wallpaper or wrapping paper
modpodge or pva glue
strong glue for wood/metal
stickers scissors

take your paper and draw around your wooden disc

neatly cut around the shape and glue on to the disc

next take your stickers...(yes I am still using my favourite paperchase ones..I just love them )
put on the sticker and then mod podge or pva over the whole thing...this will make it stick better and also give a nice finish

turn the disc over and glue on the badge back with the strong glue

keep going until you get fed up or in my case 'til your fingers get stuck together because I'm not very patient and can't wait for the glue to dry :)

covering them with modpodge should make them a bit more hard wearing but beware of getting them wet...maybe pop on a cardi or a bag rather than your best coat :)

Jolly dollies....how to...

the first of my festive how - to's is a jolly holiday version of the lolly dollies :)

you will need
scissors
mt tapes or fabric tape
pens incl a black biro
glue/double sided tape
paper doilies
bits of fabric and trim
pipe cleaners
big lolly sticks
a christmas cd (optional but it did get me in the mood!)
possibly a mince pie and a nice hot cup of glogg ...
oh ok I'm getting a bit carried away now....lets go...

first draw on your hair and face ( I use the biro to outline as the pens can sometimes bleed into the wood )
draw on legs and feet....use the tape to make a top and draw on details like collars and buttons

take a piece of fabric and gather it around at the waistline and tape in place

you can add lace or trims to the hem of the skirt with glue or d/s tape

next take a paper doily and concertina fold...get a pipe cleaner and twist around the centre of the folded doily

wrap around the lolly dolly to attach leaving a bit at the back for attaching to the tree top

you can the wrap some lace or ribbon to conceal the pipe cleaner at the front
glue on a button or any other little trims or notions you have to hand...as it's christmas I think you could go a bit nuts here and add glitter...sequins..sparkly bits etc....

an alternative way is to make the doily into a skirt..for the wings tie on a few different laces and ribbons and trim to size :) tie on an extra one to use to attach to the tree...

Just a note to add... I haven't said it for a while but Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and say hello I really, really do appreciate it, I have been away from my computer a lot lately...catching up with home life and family...it really needed to be done... but I haven't been able to read or say hello to my favourite blogs as much as I'd like to ... I'll catch up soon I promise

conkers or just bonkers....

...sometimes I fall in and out of love with this blog....maybe it's the time of year ( my favourite ) but I just seem to want to be anywhere but looking at a screen...

I want to be outside walking in the fresh air...kicking orange leaves...finding spikey conkers...(mum of sons)...with pink cheeks and cold fingers. chasing a little dog with legs that never tire.and then inside for hot chocolate, a magazine, a pile of crafty stuff and my sketchbook....

I've made some things for home...

and some cushions for the shop

I got new fairy lights  :)

and found some fabrics that are a bit different to my usual ones....

...as well as my old  favourites....

so if I'm not here much at the moment... you know where I am :)
